Dr. Kellye N. Rice graduated from David Lipscomb University in 1982 with a BA in Biology, and in 1986 with a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. She has been practicing general and cosmetic dentistry since she opened her practice in Cool Springs in 1986.
Dr. Rice is recognized by the American Dental Association and the Tennessee Dental Association as being in the top 10 percent of the profession for exceeding continuing education requirements. She excels in the areas of cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry but puts the basic health of the mouth first in all her treatment planning for her patients. In 2012 she expanded her emphasis on laser dentistry and dental sleep medicine.
Dr. Kellye Rice is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM), the only professional nonprofit association dedicated to the practice of dental sleep medicine. In February of 2017, Dr. Rice was acknowledged by the AADSM as a member of a special “qualified” category of dentists who have education and experience above the average to treat certain sleep apnea patients with an oral appliance. Her membership provides access to educational resources and practice management tools that help her serve her patients with the highest quality treatments for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea.
She is also certified in the use of the latest applications of the Fotona Light Walker Twin Laser. She received ongoing training in procedures such as SmoothLase, also known as the “inside out facelift,” and sister procedures such as NightLase treatment of the soft palate for the reduction of snoring. These non-ablative, non-cutting treatments are done using topical gel anesthetics only, have no downtime, and are tolerated extremely well by patients.
Dr. Rice and her husband, Jeff, have been married since 1984. They have three grown children: Haley, Hunter, and Hope. Dr. Rice loves theater, music, reading, and jewelry making. Most people don’t know that she can play the drums, piano, and violin (although the violin only gets played when no one else is at home!).
A member of the Otter Creek congregation, Dr. Rice is very passionate about the non-profit that she has worked with for over 15 years, Morning Star Sanctuary, a shelter for victims of domestic violence.
